About DOOR

DOOR (Deaf Opportunity OutReach) International is an organization affiliated with Wycliffe Global Alliance.  DOOR currently has a two-fold mission:
  • Sign Language Bible Translation - DOOR has started Bible translations in countries such as the United States, Kenya, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, and India, and is planning on starting translations in two very large countries in the next year or two.  Although small, DOOR is one of the most significant organizations aiding sign language Bible translation in the world today.  Translation begins with three series of Bible stories specifically selected to teach Deaf people who Jesus is and why they need a Savior; what it means to follow Christ daily; and what serving God looks like in a local church.  Translation is done by local Deaf individuals, and is checked at multiple levels by linguistic and exegetical consultants.  DOOR has put together a website that houses these translations for free global access by any Deaf person.
  • Discipleship (Equipping the Body) - Early in its infancy, DOOR attempted to do Bible translation and then send Deaf people back into their communities to form churches and spread the gospel.  Returning years later, they found that little growth had happened.  This was mostly due to a lack of knowledge and training in how to evangelize, how to teach others, and how to plant churches.  Thus, DOOR launched a ministry they call 2x2, which teaches teams of two (or more) Deaf believers how to identify and train teachers and evangelists, and how to plant churches that will be able to do the same.  The result has been phenomenal growth of the gospel in the Deaf communities where these teams have gone.
Rob has been chosen to serve as CEO of DOOR, helping to oversee more than 200 full-time workers, most of whom are native Deaf who are serving in their own countries.
